Junior Memberships and Coaching
We have developed a well attended and popular junior section at the club over the last 6 years and am now looking to extend our membership offer still further. As from this year, we are offering free membership to any under 18s (if you have already renewed you will be eligible for a refund) at the date of their membership.
This is a move away from an established U16 membership policy and is intended to make the club more inclusive for our junior segment.
In addition to our free junior membership, we are continuing to offer coaching for junior members on a Tuesday evening from 4.30pm till 6.30 pm for a nominal fee of £3 and the development of internal leagues (which are free) specifically to encourage development of their squash skills which will run following the coaching sessions.
If you are interested, please contact Jeff Watson on 07977 436106 for further details.
Today marks the sad loss of a great local squash player
For those members who knew him and to those who didn’t; today came the sad loss of Malcolm Hall who played squash for many years at the club.
He was the reining club champion for many years and one of the most talented players to ever have played for the club, representing them many times in the team.
Malcolm was not only a fabulous player, but also a great role model, source of knowledge and informal coach, but most of all a real gentleman.
He played his squash to win, but always in a fair and gracious manner and will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
RIP Malcolm.
Junior Coaching Returns!
Hi All, Just to confirm we are continuing with the Junior Coaching starting next Tuesday at 5pm for an hour.
First Durham & Cleveland Junior Team Match
The U15s played their first match in the D&C league on Sunday which proved a tough challenge!
We played a very strong team from Yarm and came out on the wrong side of a win!
As their coach, I have to say I was very pleased and proud of the way the boys played, it is not easy to play for a team for the first time, it is common to put pressure on yourself because you perceive you are letting others down.
We play to enjoy ourself, to win is fine but what is more important is to learn and gain valuable experience which will help our game.
Well done guys, you are all well on your way!
Durham & Cleveland Junior Leagues
Northallerton are collaborating with Bedale to enter an U13 & U15 team in the above league.
This is a brilliant opportunity for the guys to develop both their squash and experience of playing competitively!
As per an earlier blog, we had a team round robin at Bedale earlier in the week and from that determined the order of players for each of the teams.
Jeff Watson will be running the U15 team and Carol Pierson (Bedale) will Manage the U13.
Keep a weather eye on this blog and our facebook page for further updates.
Coaching – Urgent!
Hi All, Just to let you know, no coaching Tuesday the 24th November, back on the 30th
Brilliant night at Bedale!
Tonight we took 8 of our juniors down to Bedale to meet the juniors there and to have some matches in readiness for the Durham & Cleveland Team games.
What a brilliant night, watching the guys play squash and having fun with all games played in excellent spirit.
Thanks also to the parents for letting them stay up late on a school night and thanks to Bedale for hosting!
Well done to you all!
Looking forward to watching them play in the teams!
Junior Squash going strong!
The new season coaching got underway in September and it was pleasing to see all the boys returning after the summer to continue their squash development.
They ended the year with a tournament, and it was clear how much they had all improved over the course of the year; well done guys!
We have seen 3 new faces already this season, all with a good level of potential to make excellent players should they keep at it!
We have lost a couple of boys but hopefully as the weather gets colder they will realise what they are missing!!
Club Coach Jeff
Junior Coaching
A warm welcome to Tom and Chris who joined us last night for the junior coaching session. Both of the guys got stuck in and played really well, both these guys (and all the others!) will go on to make excellent squash players
We have also now got the Junior Squash Evolution shirts for the guys and they look pretty cool
Don’t forget to tell your mates and bring them down on a Tuesday 5 till 6!
Junior Coaching has made a great start!
Well done to all the guys who came down to coaching on Tuesday (remember, Tuesday’s 5 till 6!), some ongoing improvement (and some growth spurts!) from the guys.
So tell your mates, Tuesdays 5 till 6 with Dave and Jeff the club coaches. See you soon!!
