Good news for Saturday 21st June!
A committee member has kindly offered to put the court lights on for the junior Saturday morning session.
As per the earlier post, any juniors attending must be accompanied by a parent or guardian as this session will not be supervised.
Hopefully all back to normal for next week.
After a very successful trial, our Junior Tuesday session has ended and is under review for the future. A number of those attending have decided to join the club which is great news! Watch this blog, our Twitter and Facebook sites for further news. As a reminder, the club has two level 2 coaches who are available to support the development of all at the club, but especially our juniors. Contact Dave or Jeff
Coaching returns on Saturday following half term.
Also, don’t forget we have a free session on Tuesdays from 16.45 till 18.15
One of the clubs Juniors, Connor Watson who turned 13 at the end of January, played in his first U15 England Squash Bronze Event tournament over the weekend in Newcastle. There was a large entry in the U15, so Connor was required to play a qualifying round which he won 3:0 after outplaying his opponent with good lengths and well timed drop shots.
However, his next match presented a different set of circumstances, where he played the number 3 seed and England No 57 in what proved to be his last match for the weekend going down 3:0.
It was a good game, with Connor playing well and continuing to rise to meet the challenges of Tournament squash, but his opponent was a step up from the qualifiers and proved to have too much pace and skill for Connor at the moment.
A great experience though and one we will hope to replicate for our ever growing set of junior talents at the club!
Anybody interested in playing tournaments should contact Jeff at the club.
In the continuing attempt to develop our ever increasing Junior membership, one of the more established Juniors turned out to get a taste of what it is like to play for the club team! Connor Watson represented the club on Thursday (13th Feb) away at top of the league Collingham playing at 3. After an understandably nervy start, he settled to play more of the squash he is capable of but his opponent proved to be too strong and experienced for Connor, who lost 3:0 but learnt an awful lot during the process. The team lost 2:1 but keep alive their title contention. The next match is at home on the 27th Feb starting at 19.45 if you fancy spectating!
The league results can be seen by clicking the link on the bottom right of this page.
Saturday morning, 8th Feb saw the juniors who have only been coming for about 5 weeks, smash their previous record for continuous rallies on the drive shot! The first week, we managed 3 shots, and a couple of weeks ago we got to 8 shots. This week however, the guys showed how much they have improved by recording 24 continuous drives thus smashing the previous record of 8! Well done guys!! Coaching will continue and we are almost ready to launch the Junior squash development programme; so watch this space!
Starting from the 4th Feb the club is confirming their commitment to the development of our junior members, by making courts available each week for our juniors to play. These sessions are in addition to the coaching sessions on Saturday mornings and as for those sessions, there will be a nominal charge of £1.50 per junior to support the purchase of new coaching equipment and resources. The courts are 4.45 & 5.30 (1.5 hours) on court 1 and 5.00 (45 mins) on court 2. It is important however to note, that whilst there may be a committee member in attendance, these are not supervised sessions by the club and therefore any juniors attending will need to be accompanied by an adult who remains responsible for their behaviour and safety during these periods. Keep watching for more on the junior development front, as the Northallerton Junior Squash evolution programme is launched!
ust to confirm that junior coaching will be on this coming Saturday starting at 10.00 but that one of the courts will be available to all juniors from 09.15. Contact Jeff for further details if necessary :
A good turn out this morning, saw the guys working a bit harder to develop their fitness for squash. Some court sprints, ladder work and side sprints were all met with equal vigour and enthusiasm! Ending the session with a 3/4 court game showed how much they are all improving
Getting back into the swing of things after the Xmas break, it was good to see all the guys (and 2 new faces!) down at the club for the Junior coaching session this morning. It was great to see how much progress they are all making so well done! The 2 new guys really made progress this morning and we look forward to welcoming them back next Saturday
